This is a sub-page of Prerelease:Grand Theft Auto V (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3).

January

At the beginning of the year, Rockstar Games decided to officially release some artworks of the video game as downloads, Social Club avatars due to popular fan demand. They also stated that more things would be coming in the year, including the revelation of the iconic boxart.[1]

Delay

On January 31, 2013, Rockstar Games said that Grand Theft Auto V was delayed to September 17, 2013 for "more polish" and last-minute touches. This was not unusual for Rockstar Games, as almost all of their works tend to get delayed from weeks or months to even a few years.

Around that time, a lot of fans made conspiracy theories relating to development of the video game. While most of them involved murders that happen occasionally on the news, a good handful of them claimed that lack of marketing and hype was one of the main reasons for the delay, as Grand Theft Auto V didn't seem to receive much attention from media outlets in late 2012. This explains that most news relating to the video game throughout 2013 was simply based on all of that, as information was simply released throughout the year.

Later on, Rockstar denied all of the above theories and the delay was simply a result of the game needing proper touches.

Character Trailers

At the end of the month, three different trailers were released, all based on the playable characters. They were more closer to the final release, even though the release was around four months away. Still, they contain some differences.

Trevor Trailer

Franklin Trailer

  • The van seen at the first cutscene for Hood Safari was white rather than grey.
  • Denise Clinton wore a green hoodie and some glasses.
  • The back door next to Franklin's old house was different.
  • The exterior of Franklin's old house got some minor changes:
    • The curtains from Franklin's bedroom was white rather than yellow.
    • The Tailgater wasn't seen from the driveway, and was likely more close to the garage.
    • The fern plants by the driveway were touched up a bit to make it less graphically dated.

Michael Trailer

This trailer showcases some of the missions that are taken by Michael De Santa, as well as some cutscenes featured.

  • Michael's house is now closer to the final game, even though some minor changes are present:
    • The tiling inside the kitchen stove has a slightly different design.
    • The potted plant seen from the kitchen was smaller and had a slightly different shape.
    • The sink (that can be seen when Amanda walks out of the room in anger) had a chromic material to it.
    • The red and white pillow on the sofa of the living room was smaller in size.
    • The television in Amanda and Michael's bedroom looked a lot less new, and had a light-grey color. There's also more lighting coming from the window.
    • Jimmy's room looked a lot more brighter, even though the lamp is still on in the final game. Also, the poster for BBQ Spaceflight was white rather than black.
  • The passengers on the Yacht in Daddy's Little Girl had minor changes:
    • The black person was completely redesigned into a muscular Latino man, and wears different clothing.
    • The muscular man didn't wear a hat, and originally had a vest.
    • The girl with the magenta headband still remained, though it was unknown if the other girl had clothing.
  • The yacht had an out-of-place beige-colored table, suggesting that the furniture was originally in that color.
  • The Pearl's Seafood building at the end of Del Pierro pier had a slightly different LOD model.
  • The water bottle, towel and sandals next to Amanda De Santa's yoga kit had more detail applied to them.
  • Tracey wore white sweatpants instead of purple in her outfit seen in the second-to-last cutscene of Friend Request. Michael cannot change clothes during the final part of the aforementioned mission as he is seen wearing a polo instead of an outfit bought from Sub Urban.
  • The cutscene from Daddy's Little Girl when Jimmy notices a yacht in the distance, and Michael tries to save his daughter from becoming sexualised took place in a slightly different part of the pier.
  • During the scene when Kyle Chavis escapes from Michael's house after he gets caught cheating with Amanda, the window opens slower and particle effects were present.
  • The red BeeJay XL car at the back of the Premium Deluxe Motorsport business was yellow.
  • Jimmy's jersey still had his earlier design.
  • The motion captured-animation for Michael hitting Fabien with someone's laptop in Reuniting the Family was altered. There also wasn't any coffee cups present in the cutscene and the plants and vehicles were positioned differently.
  • Most notably at 0:36, Michael had a different facial appearance and looked a lot more Hispanic and younger, which doesn't even match what was seen in the very first trailer. From the leaked Builds.xml files, Michael's default model was changed on June 1, 2011, making it a leftover from an earlier point of development.
  • Jimmy was probably watching television rather than playing video games in the beginning cutscene for Daddy's Little Girl.
  • The woman in a white shirt looking at jewellery in Vangelico was blue in color.
  • The papers on the desk in the IAA building had a texture-related change.
  • There were slightly more guests present at the party in the Chumash beach house, (during By The Book) and one of them had a different-colored top.
  • The sniper cross-hair had no green circle in the very center, making it harder to distinguish from the darkness.

Official Gameplay Trailer

Even though the game was two months from being released, some minor changes can still be spotted.

  • At the beginning cutscene of Repossesion, the camera angle is different when Franklin realises that he cannot move forward in his life.
    • The LOD model of the under-construction Mile-High Club (that could be seen from the window) looked unpolished in a way.
    • The employee of the month picture was of Simeon instead of Franklin.
    • The PDM X neon sign had a bit of a stronger backlight.
    • The office didn't have much shadow graphics, making the area look brighter.
  • The camera angle was slightly repositioned in the cutscene for The Merryweather Heist.
  • Floyd's Apartment had some minor changes:
    • The dining minitable, chairs, the food items in the lounge area was moved a bit.
    • There was a potted plant present next to the loveseat.
    • The graphical text used in the plans for the Merryweather heist were redrawn to make it more readable.
  • There were less lighting spotlights in the kitchen of Michael's house, and the food processor had a blue light under it.
  • The cutscene for Fame Or Shame has some differences:
    • Jimmy De Santa's outfit worn in the cutscene had no logo on the shirt and wore jeans instead of short slacks.
    • In the same cutscene, there wasn't wine present in the glass implying that Michael didn't drink all of it, and a bottle of liquor can be seen.
  • The camera angle for the ending cutscene for Repossestion was slightly different.
  • The Trevor toilet Switch Scene had him saying "Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck!" instead of "Bye bye foot." or "Flush for fuck's sake!".
  • Three's Company received some minor changes:
    • The helicopter used in Three's company had less movement effects applied towards the blades.
    • The camera angle is different when Michael drops down from the helicopter onto the IAA Headquarters.
    • The map icons were present in the mission while Michael rappels down onto the building.
    • The blinds from the IAA headquarters were positioned differently, and the glass reflections seen in the office were more noticeable.
    • There was a lot more draw distance from the building.
    • Micheal's Special skill is drained for some reason.
  • The Character Switch icons were different, and the faded mugshots were replaced with silhouettes in the final during missions.
