Hmmm...
To do:
Find out which magazines these were featured in.
Nack posing Nack waiting for Sonic ..and then pulling a gun on him

Magazine scans show a scene in Great Turquoise Zone that doesn't happen in the final game, featuring Nack pulling out a gun on the player. None of Nack's sprites seen here are present in the final game. It should be noted that Nack is otherwise never depicted with a realistic gun, with Sonic the Fighters and future portrayals instead giving him a cartoonish cork pop gun.

Summer CES 1994

Hmmm...
To do:
There are more differences in the video.

A preview of the game was shown at Summer CES 1994 (starting at nearly 6 minutes in), with several interesting things to note:

  • During Sunset Park, the player can briefly be seen in a noclip mode.
  • The resolution of the second gameplay showcase doesn't match with the Game Gear, and appears consistent with the Master System; this adds further credience to there being a planned Master System port in development that was scrapped for whatever reason, possibly due to its late release of 1994, near the end of the system's life in Europe.
  • The HUD looks different; the numbers next to the ring counter are the same size as the timer in this build, with both also seeming to lack any shadow. The lives counter is also completely missing.
  • During Great Turquoise Act 2, Sonic breaks open a monitor containing the snowboard from Robotnik Winter (called a Rocket Board) and is able to surf on water, a feature completely absent from the final game.
  • In the footage, getting hit by a spring while riding a cart in Sunset Park causes Sonic to immediately be set free from it; in the final, he just bounces in the opposite direction, still in the cart.
