The September 14th, 1997 prototype of Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back is a PAL review version of the game dated a few weeks before the final NTSC-U release version. It was released on 2013.

General Differences

This review version is mostly identical to the September 13th, 1997 build, with the only major exception of being a PAL prototype, so language options are present.

  • Localization is partly implemented, it's that just the game text is in English.
  • If you ever choose "No" to an overwrite prompt, it removes some options from the screen. They are still selectable, though.
  • Attempting to exit Hang Eight before or during the warp spawn will freeze the game.
  • In Rock It, the flame wall behind the second jet pack lab assistant is missing.
  • Due to an excess of polygons, Piston It Away crashes in the death route area with the clear gem. Areas around the gem are also prone to crash. This can be fixed with a cheat code.
