This is an early version of the Twin Blades of Azzinoth, and has been in the game since before the first expansion. According to the lore, the Twin Blades of Azzinoth could be connected to each other to form a single weapon, and then split apart to form separate weapons. However, when the Twin Blades were introduced as obtainable legendary items in Burning Crusade, they are separate items that instead make up an item set and can not be connected. This early version stays true to the lore.
