Exercise 2: Opening Doors

The following exercise will teach you how to open doors.

Instructions:

Open the following set of doors in front of you. By pressing your 'activate' key the door will open and you will be allowed entry.

The 'hand' icon, which appears at the bottom of your display, will notify you when a door, gate or portcullis may be entered.

You may also choose to open a rotating door with a swift boot kick. While standing directly in front of the door, press your 'kick' key. Kicking a door will cause it to open faster.

When you feel comfortable with your ability to open doors using the two methods described above, proceed to the next station.

Time Limit: None

Exercise 3: Jump and Crouch

The following set of obstacles will teach you how to jump and crouch.

Instructions:

While moving forward press your 'jump' key to spring from the ground in a single motion while moving over the bundle of logs.

When you reach the suspended log frame, you will not be allowed to pass through it while moving in your normal posture. Press the 'crouch' key while moving forward. Your entire body will stoop closer to the ground allowing you to pass.

Practice these two techniques until you are comfortable with your ability. When you are ready, proceed across the water obstacle until you reach the next station.

Exercise 4: Climbing

This exercise will teach you how to climb a ladder.

Instructions:

Ascend the ladder in front of you by moving forward towards the parallel rungs of the structure. When you are close enough to ascend, the 'ladder' icon will appear at the bottom of your display. This will notify you when you have the ability to climb. Move forward while looking up towards the sky. Continue to move forward (while looking up) until you reach the top of the structure. Move forward to exit the ladder.

Once you have completed this exercise follow the directions on the clipboard located at the top of this station.

Time Limit: None

Exercise 6: Medical Kits

This is an introduction to first aid.

Instructions:

Sitting on the table beside you are three large medical kits. If you are in need of healing you will automatically pick them up as you move toward them.

You may also choose to pick up a medical kit by pressing the 'activate' key. When you are close enough to pick up the item it will become highlighted signifying it is ready for use.

If you prefer this method, you may turn off the 'auto pick-up' option in your control settings. However, in doing so, you will need to manually pick up all items in the game, including weapons and ammunition.

Once you are at full health, proceed to the next station.

Time Limit: None

Exercise 7: Live-Fire Obstacle

This is a live-fire exercise intended to test your shock tolerance and to prepare you for the onslaught of hostile enemies.

Instructions:

Crouch and move forward beneath the barbed wire. Continue moving forward until you have reached the end of the obstacle.

Once the live-fire portion of the exercise is completed take a moment to practice some of the skills you have learned. Follow the course beyond the dragon's teeth and through the drainage pipes until you reach the next station.

Time Limit: None

Exercise 8: Safety Cages

This station will teach you the importance of safety cages and how to effectively use them during the descent of a ladder.

Instructions:

Ascend and descend this obstacle using the climbing skills you have learned previously.

When you feel comfortable with your ability, try negotiating the obstacle at an accelerated pace. You'll notice that when you are not facing a ladder you will release your grip on the rungs and fall towards the ground. The safety cage will allow you enough time to turn and face the ladder while you begin to fall. You can use this tactic to your advantage during a confrontation with the enemy.

When you are finished and feel comfortable with your ability, proceed to the next station.

Time Limit: None

Exercise 12: The OSA Combat Knife and Kick attack

This exercise will teach you how to effectively use your OSA combat knife and teach you how to properly kick the enemy.

Instructions:

With your combat knife selected (key default 1), approach one of the canvas bags in front of you. While standing directly in front of the bag press the 'attack' key. If you have successfully inflicted damage upon the enemy the bag will swing.

From the same position you may also kick the enemy by pressing your 'kick' key. The kick attack often comes in handy when you have run out of ammunition and do not have enough time to draw your combat knife.

When you are ready, move behind the bag and point your knife at the red 'X' that marks the enemy's spinal chord. The knife icon located at the bottom your screen will appear to signify that you are in position to strike a single, silent and deadly blow.

Practice attacking the various canvas bags with these attack methods. When you are comfortable with your ability, proceed to the next station.

Exercise 13: The M1911A1 pistol

This exercise will teach you how to effectively aim, fire and reload your standard issue M1911A1 pistol.

Instructions:

If you have not already done so, move towards the left side of the shooter's bench in front of you and pick up the M1911A1 pistol (key default 2). If you have 'auto pick-up' selected in your options menu you will automatically grab the firearm and place it into your inventory. If you have this option disabled in your options menu, you will need to point at the weapon and press your 'activate' key to pick it up.

Once you have the weapon in your hand, move to the right side of the bench and pick up the ammunition.

Aim your pistol down range at the moving targets. When the crosshair is centered on a target press your 'attack' key. If you have successfully hit the target it will fall backward.

The OSA M1911A1 pistol holds 8 rounds. When your clip is empty you will instinctively reload the weapon. If you would like to reload the weapon before this occurs, press your 'reload' key.

If you pick up a second M1911A1 pistol you may chose to twin carry both of the sidearms. To accomplish this, press your 'secondary fire' key. When doing so, you may fire both weapons simultaneously. To switch back to single carry mode, press the 'secondary fire' key once again.

When you are comfortable firing the M1911A1 pistol move to the next station.

Exercise 14: The M1A1 sub machinegun

This exercise will teach you how to properly fire the M1A1 sub machinegun.

Instructions:

The M1A1 sub machinegun (key default 3) is a difficult weapon to master. It is always best to fire any sub machinegun in short controlled bursts instead of a continuous stream of fire.

If you have not already done so, pick up the weapon and ammunition on the bench in front of you in the same manner learned previously.

Aim the firearm down range and press your 'attack' key in one or two second intervals allowing short three round bursts of fire. You will quickly notice that the crosshair on the screen in front of you will continue to grow if you continue to hold the 'attack' key. The larger the crosshair grows, the less accurate your fire becomes. With controlled, short bursts of fire you can keep your crosshair small and remain accurate.

To shoot a single shot with the sub machinegun simply tap your 'attack' key once. This will allow only one shot to be discharged from the weapon.

Again, you will instinctively reload the weapon when the clip has depleted its 30 round capacity. If you would like to tactically reload the firearm before this occurs press your 'reload' key at any time.

Continue firing the M1A1 sub machinegun at the moving targets until you are comfortable with the weapon.

When ready, move to the next station.

NOTE: There is no alternate fire mode for the M1A1 sub machinegun

Exercise 15: The Mauser K98K long rifle

The Mauser K98K is the preferred long rifle of your enemy. This exercise will teach you how to employ it effectively.

Instructions:

The K98K (key default 4) is easy to operate and retains a good combat accuracy over fairly long ranges. With this in mind, aim the rifle down rage and fire a single shot in the same manner learned in the previous exercises.

You will quickly notice that this weapon is extremely accurate. Obtaining successful kills at long ranges with the K98K can be easily achieved.

You will instinctively chamber a new round after each shot. If you would like to reload the internal box magazine with a fresh clip, press the 'reload' key at any time.

Continue to aim, fire and reload the K98K until you feel comfortable with the weapon.

When ready, move to the next station.

NOTE: In a later exercise, we will show you how to employ the rifle with a variable optic system using the 'alternate fire' mode.

training17.txt

Exercise 17: The Mauser K98K Long Rifle with Variable Optic System

This exercise will teach you how to employ the Mauser K98K long rifle with a variable optic system (sniper scope).

Instructions:

Now that you are comfortable with the use of the Mauser rifle, practice firing at the long-range targets with the sniper scope attached. The scope is located on the shooter's bench in front of you.

To switch to the scope view, select the Mauser K98K long rifle (key default 4) and then press your 'alternate fire' key.

With the magnification and change in field of view, you will quickly notice that your crosshairs sway slightly. This natural occurrence can be monitored and controlled by the colored bar to the left of the horizontal crosshair.

The color red signifies the highest amount of sway. If you remain still, you will notice that the bar begins to shrink and become green in color. If you remain still for a long enough period of time the bar will disappear altogether and the sway in your crosshairs will become virtually undetectable. This is when you are most accurate.

You may also change your field of view and magnification by pressing your 'zoom in' and 'zoom out' keys. Doing so increases the amount of sway but also increases the weapons effectiveness at incredibly long ranges.

Continue to aim, fire and reload the K98K until you feel comfortable firing the weapon at long ranges.

When you are ready, move to the next station.

Time Limit: None

Exercise 17: The MG42 Machinegun

This exercise will teach you how to mount and fire the MG42 machinegun from a fixed position.

Instructions:

Move to the rear of the MG42 mounted machinegun on the bench in front of you. When you are position directly behind the weapon press your 'activate' key to mount the weapon.

Once mounted simply press and hold the 'attack' key. You may continue to fire the weapon until all immediate threats have been neutralized. It is not necessary to reload the MG42 machinegun.

To dismount the MG42 press your 'activate' key once again.

When you are ready, move to the next station.

Exercise 19: Destructible Barriers

This exercise will teach you how to move through destructible barriers.

Instructions:

When you approach a barrier that is destructible, the 'breakable' icon will appear at the bottom of your screen.

Move directly in front of the barrier and use any method of attack to destroy the object in front of you. Generally, the larger the object the more damage is required to destroy it. However, if you would like to save your ammunition you may always switch to your knife or use your kick. The blue horizontal bar below the 'breakable' icon signifies how much damage is required.

Destroy the set of wooden planks in front of you and continue to move through the obstacle until you reach the destructible floorboards. Destroy the floor and drop into the next station.

Exercise 20: Chairs

This exercise will teach you how to pick up and use a chair.

Instructions:

Chairs can be extremely useful when there appears to be no other means of escape. They can also be used for cover or even used to stun the enemy.

To pick up a chair walk towards it until you see the 'hand' icon at the bottom of your screen. If the hand icon appears within a circle and slash you are wielding a two handed weapon and do not have a free hand to pick up the chair. Once you have switched to a one handed weapon simply hit your 'activate' key to pick up the chair.

Once the chair is in your hand you may swing it by pressing you 'kick' key. To throw the chair, press your 'activate' key once again. If there is an obstacle in front of you the chair will remain in your hand until it is clear.

You may also use the chair to climb into areas normally inaccessible. Simply pick up the chair and position it under the exit (to the right of the ladder). Press your 'jump' key while moving forward to leap onto the top of the chair. Press jump and move forward once again to exit the station.

NOTE: If the chair breaks, use the ladder to exit and proceed to the next station.

Exercise 21: Grenades

This exercise will teach you how to properly use a grenade.

D A N G E R

All grenades utilize fuse detonators. Improper use will result in serious injury or death.

Instructions:

Pick up a satchel of grenades on the crate stack to your right. Select the grenade (key default 6) and move to the fence in front of you. Carefully aim towards the yellow smoke boxes located within the small craters.

When you are ready, simply tap and RELEASE the 'attack' key to throw the grenade.

The distance of your throw is determined by the horizon. The higher you aim above the horizon line the farther you will throw the grenade. The lower you aim beneath the horizon the closer the grenade will land.

All grenades have a 5 second fuse. To short fuse a grenade press and hold the 'attack' key. You will hear the tick as the fuse begins to burn. Let go of the 'attack' key when you want to throw the live grenade. Make sure to release your grip before the fuse detonates.
