Solar Winds: The Escape is the first of a two-part story in which the player plays as a bounty hunter travelling throughout the galaxy looking for work and uncovering a sinister plot.

Unused Text

These pieces of text can be found in solar1.exe.

CLOAK HAS BEEN NULLED
STRONG BETA PARTICLE EMMISSIONS DETECTED IN POLAR REGION.
DISTRESS SIGNAL DETECTED ON PLANET SURFACE.

There is also the seemingly unused alert "SCIENCE SCAN REPORTS NOTHING" in the file. This is used if the player attempts to scan an out-of-bounds star that wasn't meant to be accessible.

Unused Items

STONE
FUEL
GOLD
WIRES
NUA FLUID

Missiles G, h, K, v, b, n, and m, lasers 5, r, y, u, and i, and shields 4 and 7 are all in the game's data and usable if a savegame is modified, but cannot be obtained by normal means.

Unused Stars

Although clearly visible, the player clearly isn't meant to go to any of the distant stars (not counting the two nearby ones that are part of the story) due to the outer rim (which is actually programmed into the game) which causes the player to die if he goes out-of-bounds, and also because there's absolutely nothing else there. It is possible to get to them by taking advantage of the way the game checks this (by saving whilst in hyperdrive and reloading when the ship explodes) and by cheating to give oneself loads of fuel for the hyperdrive (otherwise the journey would take forever). The stars are at the following sectors:

  • -16896, 8960
  • -14336, -12288
  • -15872, -14080
  • -6656, -14080
  • -24576, -21760
  • 7936, -16640
  • 15104, -21760
