Hmmm...
To do:
  • Add more content.
  • Add the unused SFX and music files.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII does exactly what it says on the tin: it's the return of Lightning. The third and final game in the The Lightning trilogy, you guide our heroine on a quest to save everyone's souls before the world ends in 13 days. Yes, there's a time limit in the vein of The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, so use it wisely.

  • Many plot points in the Japanese version were revised in the English version to remove various implications. They are as follows:
    • The overall implication of Lightning and Hope's pairing is toned down. Also, a conversation between the two was added that hints at a Vanille and Hope pairing.
    • During a scene between Lightning and Snow, where the latter absorbs the Chaos infusion, Snow's dialogue is changed to make him more grief-stricken and desperate. ("Just watch! I'm going to swallow every bit of this Chaos! This is the end!" was changed to "This is what I deserve! You know it, and I know it! So come on! Do your worst!")
    • During the battle between Lightning and Bhunivelze in its second form, some innuendos were toned down. In the Japanese version, he says "As the goddess, you will grant my deepest desire/desires." This was changed to "You have proven yourself, but the real battle is merely beginning!" in the English version.
    • Regarding Hope's role as Bhunivelze's avatar, where Bhunivelze talks about molding humanity to his liking, not Hope, Lightning's words during Last Resort were changed from her saying "Last Resort!" to "I bring you salvation!" When she saves Hope, her dialogue is changed from "You survive" to "So go and live."
  • The international versions offer Japanese voice overs as a separate download.
  • The following DLC garbs were only made available for purchase in North America and Europe: FFVII Aerith, Shogun, Shining Prince, Utsusemi, Sohel Savior, Dark Samurai, Art of War and Flower of Battle.

Version Differences

The Windows version makes the following changes to the game:

  • All DLC is included, with the exception of the Midgar's Flower Girl schemata.
  • The Guardian Corps and Knight of Etro schemata are included by default.
  • The Outerworld Services feature from the console versions is not included. Thus, the Siegfried garb cannot be obtained in this version.
  • It is not possible to change names assigned to schemata, map markers and the Angel of Valhalla.
