With major public restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic finally easing up and the second cancellation of E3, 2022 started off a bit slow in terms of video games. It'd be until Spring when a few good titles such as Elden Ring, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, and LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga were released to critical acclaim. This year also featured a trio of threequels which consisted of Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Splatoon 3, and Bayonetta 3. Capcom celebrated the 35th Anniversary of Street Fighter with Capcom Fighting Collection, and the ground-breaking reveal of the upcoming Street Fighter 6 in the form of a sneak-peak showing the return of Ryu, and the arrival of series' newcomer Luke. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe proved that it wouldn't go anywhere anytime soon with the introduction of the Booster Course Pass, introducing a whopping 48 courses to the already course loaded game, essentially doubling the content. Valve also throws its hat into the handheld-gaming ring with the Steam Deck, which was released to generally positive reception.
