With major public restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic finally easing up and the second cancellation of E3, 2022 starts off a bit slow in terms of video games. It's until Spring rolls around when a few good titles such as Elden Ring, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, and LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga are released to critical acclaim. This year also features a trio of threequels in Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Splatoon 3, and Bayonetta 3. Capcom celebrates the 35th Anniversary of Street Fighter with Capcom Fighting Collection, and the groundbreaking reveal of Street Fighter 6 in the form of a sneak peek showing the return of Ryu and the arrival of series newcomer Luke. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe introduces the Booster Course Pass DLC, adding a whopping 48 courses to the already course-loaded game, essentially doubling the content... in other words, this game's not leaving anytime soon. Valve also throws its hat into the handheld-gaming ring with the Steam Deck, which is released to generally positive reception.
