LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham brings the Dynamic Duo to space in order to team up with the rest of the Justice League and defeat the villainous Brainiac, before he steals the Lantern Power Rings for his own nefarious purposes. Probably should have been named "LEGO Green Lantern", but they probably didn't want to bring back memories of the 2011 flop.

Most people seem to remember it as "the one with the hub world downgrade" after both Gotham City in LEGO Batman 2 and Manhattan in LEGO Marvel Super Heroes raised open-world expectations.

Scrapped/Changed Characters

Remnants of characters that never made the final product, or were changed prior.

Atrocitus
Atrocitus having a face texture in the format of minifigure characters suggests that he wasn't going to be a big-figure at first.

Black Mask
Black Mask appears to be a character that was scrapped altogether, despite having completed textures. Past games at least included his parts in the character creation suite, but sadly poor Roman missed out on this game full time. Strangely enough these textures were also used in the handheld port of Lego Batman 2.

Brainiac
These leftover textures are the remnants of a 1950s variant of Brainiac based off of his first, decent pants-less appearance.

Croc Goon
There is an unused face texture with a name that suggests that Killer Croc's goons would be more crocodile-person hybrids, rather than just people in crocodile costumes.

Firefly
Firefly has unused torso textures that adapt the design from Batman: The Animated Series. Interestingly, these are named as though the default, while the ones used (modeled after the design in The Batman series) are named "FIREFLYBNY".

Firestorm
Firestorm has an alternate face texture that's closer to his current appearance.

Green Arrow
There are both face and torso textures for a classic variant of Green Arrow, while the final game only has the New 52 variant. Like with Firefly, the filenames suggest these are for the default variant.

Manchester Black
An unused and more unique face for Manchester Black exists, rather than the generic NPC one used in-game.
LB3BG-HEAD MANCHESTERBLACK FRONT DX11.png
Polka-Dot Man
The same thing with Manchester Black is also the case with Polka-Dot Man.
LB3BG-HEAD POLKADOTMAN FRONT DX11.png
Red Robin
A complete set of textures for Tim Drake as Red Robin goes unused in the files.
LB3BG-HEAD REDROBIN FRONT DX11.png LB3BG-BODY REDROBIN FRONT DX11.png LB3BG-BODY REDROBIN BACK DX11.png
Voltaic
The same is true for incredibly minor Batman villain Voltaic.

LEGO Batman 2 Leftovers

There are leftover character textures from the previous LEGO Batman game.

Batman
Batman's default variant textures from LEGO Batman 2 return, but so do some that were unused then and now.

Damian Wayne
Oddly the only DLC character to have textures leftover here, Damian Wayne's torso returns in all its glory... despite being very similar to Tim Drake's textures.
LB3BG-BODY ROBINDAMIAN FRONT DX11.png LB3BG-BODY ROBINDAMIAN BACK DX11.png
Hostess
That one hostess of the Man of the Year Award ceremony in LEGO Batman 2's opening cutscene was apparently important enough to have her textures leftover in the sequel.
LB3BG-BODY HOSTESS FRONT DX11.png LB3BG-BODY HOSTESS BACK DX11.png
Killer Croc
Killer Croc's minifigure textures have returned. Although they weren't renamed as such, they were likely going to be used for the original Croc Goon design mentioned above.
LB3BG-BODY KILLERCROC FRONT DX11.png LB3BG-BODY KILLERCROC BACK DX11.png
LexCorp Scientist
Another barely relevant character has their textures return, this time a common enemy in level 9 of LEGO Batman 2. Just the back texture this time, weirdly.
LB3BG-BODY LEXCORPSCIENTIST BACK DX11.png
Lex Luthor
Lex's sleek dark suit from the previous game appears in this one too, even though in-game he's always in battle armor.

Unused Audio

8BIT_QUI.OGG
An unused music track that could've been used for an 8-Bit Music red brick, like the ones in LEGO Lord of the Rings and LEGO The Hobbit.

Normally Unseen Text

Hmmm...
To do:
  • Any other leftover evidence of the Armory area in the code?
  • Investigate and verify which versions have different character lighting - PS4 version?

LB3BG-UnseenText.png
Out of bounds in the Watchtower, found under the Containment Cells load zone from the main area, is an unused load zone to a nonexistent room labeled "The Armory". Oddly, visiting this space on certain platforms cause bright red lighting to affect the player character.
